It bothers me when I hear people say “Jesus Christ” or “Christ” or “Jesus” (or something like that) at the end or beginning of their sentences. They say the name completely out of context. For example, “Jesus Christ that’s a lot of sandwiches.” Or, “Give me back my stuff. JESUS!” They say it as a sort of exclamatory phrase, and it honestly burdens me. I’m burdened by this because the name of Jesus is utterly and completely holy. People say His name without any thought or concern and it takes away every single bit of its meaning. The name Jesus Christ should be earth-shattering, not a murmur at the end of a sentence. Now, I understand if an unbeliever would say Jesus Christ isn’t holy. But, then why even say his name at all? The sad fact of that being they don’t know the grace of God, but it has become a habit in so many people’s lives to just spit it out without even thinking about it that it very much diminishes the sacredness of His holy name.
